West Sacramento Neighborhood Guide

West Sacramento · Sacramento region

Across the Tower Bridge — newer buildings, riverfront walks, and Sutter Health Park a block away. A quieter base with downtown still minutes off.

The lay of the land

West Sacramento is across the Sacramento River from Downtown, connected by the Tower Bridge — the yellow lift bridge you see in every Sacramento skyline photo. Administratively it's its own city, but functionally it's five to ten minutes from every downtown employer. The character is different: newer buildings, more open space, direct riverfront access, and the quieter feel of a neighborhood that isn't a state capital's central business district.

The core of the West Sacramento waterfront sits along the Bridge District, where Sutter Health Park (home of the Sacramento River Cats, and the temporary home of Major League Baseball's Athletics) anchors a small, modern cluster of residences, restaurants, and the riverfront promenade.

Who this neighborhood fits

West Sacramento is where guests land when they want space and quiet after a long shift, without giving up proximity. Travel nurses working long stretches who value being able to actually decompress at home pick West Sacramento more than any other neighborhood we serve. Executives who value being able to work from home in a quieter setting — with the option to be at a downtown office in under ten minutes — gravitate here too.

It's also a strong fit for construction and contract crews on multi-week projects. The newer buildings are quieter, parking is easier, and the residences work well for the schedule of a job site rather than an office.

The riverfront and the Bridge District

The Sacramento River Walk runs along the West Sacramento side and continues across the Tower Bridge into Old Sacramento — the preserved 19th-century district on the Downtown bank. It's the best walking or running route in the region, flat and continuous, with Downtown's skyline as your backdrop. Sutter Health Park anchors the district — home of the Sacramento River Cats, and the temporary home of Major League Baseball's Athletics — so on game nights the neighborhood is genuinely alive, and on quiet nights it's yours.

Drake's: The Barn is the practical center of the Bridge District's social life — a two-acre brewery and beer garden with a pizzeria and outdoor stages for live music. It's the default answer for a casual dinner, a group meetup, or a Sunday afternoon that stretches longer than planned. Franquette, right on the riverfront, is the counterweight: a French-inspired wine bar and café that works equally well for a slow morning coffee, a working lunch, or a glass of wine with the bridge lit up at dusk. For comfort food without ceremony, Broderick Roadhouse is the neighborhood standby.

Getting around

Everything is a short drive. Downtown employers, all the major hospitals, the Capitol, and Golden 1 Center are five to ten minutes across the bridge. The airport (Sacramento International, SMF) is roughly a fifteen-minute drive — noticeably faster than from Midtown, which matters if you fly weekly.

Parking is easier than on the Sacramento side, and our West Sacramento residences include dedicated on-site parking. Rideshare is available and reliable, though most guests here default to driving.

What to know before you arrive

West Sacramento is quieter than Downtown or Midtown after 8pm on weeknights — that's what most guests come here for, and it's worth setting expectations honestly. If your priority is walking to dinner every night, Midtown is the better fit. If your priority is coming home to a modern building with a river walk out the door, this is it.

For groceries and essentials, a Raley's and a Nugget Market are both within a short drive on the West Sacramento side, and the downtown Target and Safeway are equally quick across the bridge.
